…In Paul A. Stellini, the painter one senses Stellini the graphic artist. In Maltese Village, he explores the main characteristics of rural architecture from the graphic point of view. The composition becomes an analysis in simple geometric forms mostly squares and rectangles with colourful super impositions in order to create a sense of perspective.

Subject-matter is provided by the artist's immediate environment, the familiar everyday landmarks and sights. Inspiration could be triggered by focal points such as a corner niche, a wayside chapel, a village baroque church soaring haughtily above the vernacular architecture…
…However, these themes are developed and rendered in Stellini's own graphic style. The artist simplifies forms, outlining them heavily in black, reminiscent of medieval stained glass windows and Japanese prints.

…he uses oils on hessian giving his paintings a textured surface as parts of the rough sacking are allowed to form of the surface. These paintings have a definite Maltese character as Stellini depicts typically local features such as green persjani , a wrought iron balcony, a parish church….
…very distinctive in his use of thick white paint which serves to highlight the extremes between light and shade.
